Apple has released the new version of Operating System ( called: macOS Sierra ) on Sep 20, 2016. I like the name because it’s very easy to spell than OS X ( OS Ten ). I’m so excited for this release and can’t wait to do a clean install of macOS Sierra.

If you’d like to know what’s new on macOS Sierra, you’re able to read the overview section on the Apple’s website .

Here are the steps that I’ve taken:

Backup

The most important thing is backup the data. For me, Time Machine is the best choice for backup the data because it’s very easy to use and user-friendly. If you’re not familiar with the Time Machine, you’re able to read about Time Machine here.

Creating the USB flash disk macOS Sierra bootable

First, I download the macOS Sierra from the App Store then use it as the source of the macOS Sierra installer.

Here are the steps for creating the USB flash disk macOS Sierra bootable:

1. Plug the USB flash disk

2. Run the Disk Utility to erase the USB flash drive with the name “Sierra.”

3. Run the Terminal then invoke this command:

sudo /Applications/Install macOS Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Sierra –applicationpath /Applications/Install macOS Sierra.app –nointeraction

4. Wait till the Terminal process “Done.”

Install macOS Sierra using the bootable USB flash disk

1. Shut Down the Mac

2. Plug the USB flash disk

3. Press the power button to turn on your Mac then hold down the Option key immediately till the flash drive appears on the boot menu

4. Select the USB flash drive to boot the Mac using the USB flash drive

5. Wait for some minutes till the macOS Sierra installation prompt appears

6. Erase the Mac HD using Disk Utility then start the installation as usual till finish

The next step is to install the latest Application that needed such as VMware Fusion, Sublime text, iWork, etc.

The last step is Restore the data

Because I need to clean up unnecessary files on my MacBook, I decide to restore the data manually.
